Canadian beach volleyball players Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes have kicked off the new season in stellar fashion as they strive for an Olympic medal in Paris this summer. Their journey began with a remarkable victory over Laura Ludwig and Louisa Lippman of Germany in Pool D play at the first Elite16 event of the year in Doha, Qatar. Subsequently, they secured another impressive win against China’s Xue Chen and Xia Xinyi.

In the 2023 season, the Toronto duo wrapped up their campaign in Doha, finishing fifth at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Finals last December. Although they faced a quarterfinal defeat against Americans Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss, they have demonstrated resilience and skill throughout their matches.

Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes are set to face Latvia’s Anastasija Samoilova & Tina Graudina in their final pool match on Thursday. Despite their relatively short time as partners on the international stage, they have ascended to fourth in the world rankings, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and determination.

Throughout their matches, the Canadians have exhibited strong performances in attack, blocking, and service. Their ability to dominate key aspects of the game has been evident, contributing to their success on the Beach Pro Tour circuit. With multiple podium finishes and a silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson have established themselves as formidable competitors on the global stage.

As they continue their pursuit of Olympic glory, fans can tune in to live coverage from Doha on and CBC platforms to witness the duo’s exciting journey and competitive spirit on the beach volleyball court.
