Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has successfully undergone planned abdominal surgery and is expected to stay at the hospital for a maximum of two weeks. On the other hand, King Charles will be receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate next week, as announced by royal officials on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old Catherine, who is the wife of Prince William, the heir to the throne, was admitted to the London Clinic on Tuesday. Her office at Kensington Palace stated that she would receive treatment for 10 to 14 days before returning home for recovery.
Although no details about the surgery were disclosed, a spokesperson mentioned that the condition was non-cancerous.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the attention this statement will generate,” the statement said. “She hopes the public will understand her desire to maintain normalcy for her children as much as possible, as well as her wish for her personal medical information to remain private.”
Shortly thereafter, Buckingham Palace revealed that the 75-year-old Charles would also undergo a “corrective procedure” for a benign condition at the hospital next week.
“Like thousands of men each year, the king sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the palace stated.
Both royals have appeared to be in good health. Their last appearance in public was on Christmas Day when the Royal Family attended a church service near Charles’s Sandringham residence in eastern England.
According to Kensington Palace, Catherine is expected to resume public duties after Easter, and updates will be provided only when there is “significant new information to share.”
During his wife’s recovery, the 41-year-old William will also postpone several engagements.
Born as Catherine Middleton, she became the Princess of Wales following Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022. This occurred when William was given the title of Prince of Wales, which his father, Charles, had held for over six decades.
Polls indicate that since her marriage to William in 2011, Catherine has become one of the most popular members of the Royal Family and the embodiment of a modern monarch. Furthermore, she is considered a global fashion icon whose appearances frequently grace the covers of glossy magazines.
Catherine and William have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. In 2012, she spent four days in the hospital due to severe morning sickness during her pregnancy with George.
Although few details about Catherine’s condition were made public, as is customary with the royal family regarding medical matters as private, Charles was eager to share information to encourage other men experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention.
According to the National Health Service (NHS) website in Britain, a benign enlarged prostate affects urination and commonly occurs in individuals over the age of 50.
“It’s not cancerous and usually does not pose a serious health risk,” the NHS states. “Many men worry that having an enlarged prostate increases the risk of developing prostate cancer. However, this is not the case.”
